Time and Tide

by Cantchangeme   Mar 5, 2025

In the way I find this night
Solitary, calm and lone
Enthralled as I am in reverie
Shared with markings on a stone

In a mockery of death
The oak has shed its leaves
It’s vibrant greens and rustlings
A sound only summer grieves

A million greater minds
Lecture as preachers on letting go
I shall hold on utterly
To this most grand and secret show

If my mind leave me and I forget you
Then know it is but a shell
There is no soul as can be discerned
That does not suffer in hell

A great unmaking of my spirit
On the day you were taken
A day that has lasted forever
Unending, unforgiven, forsaken

Specks of starlight may still descend
To this deep abyssal black
To remind the damned of your face
For a breath would bring you back

The storm it has risen to take
To steal tears from the bereft
Yet it shall not rob my eyes
As I have absolutely nothing left

In awe of you I shall but wait
Whilst you rest in sweet repose
Till time and tide strip away
And flesh and thought depose
