How Can You Not?

by Danielle   Jul 21, 2004

Do you see them,
Running down my face.
Tears piercing the skin,
Falling at a rapid pace.

How can you not,
you made them appear.
With your hurtful words,
and the pain that I endear.

Do you hear them,
Shrieking cries for help?
Echoing through the atmosphere
Reflections of what I felt.

How can you not,
they are so deafening
Pleading to be heard
yet hushed, they will remain.

Do you feel them?
Puncturing jolts of pain.
So intense, I'm going insane.

How can you not,
All the wounds are right here
Bleeding eternally
The more you disappear

I can see you walk away
The more I cry
But you never turn to see
You never even try

I can hear you close that door
To my broken bleeding heart
It’s longing for that breath
That’s keeping us apart

I can feel you look through me
Like I’m not even here
I don’t exist any longer
As I shed my final tear.

I absolutely love that stanza. I know how it feels to think you're screaming so loudly, and crying so hard ... and still not being heard. (I don't know if that was your message, but that's what I got.)
