Words That Kill

by mary   Jul 22, 2004

* I wrote this poem about a girl I used to go to school with, I made up the ending because it's something that could happen, please read this and tell me what you think, it really means a lot. *

They say she’s too fat
They say she’s too short
She wishes she could change that
But it could never work
They say she’s too ugly
And needs a new style
They don’t understand the words they say
Are killing her all the while
She sees the happy couples kissing
And laughing as they walk
She has so much jealousy
And she’s scared to talk
To be accepted she just needs to be,
A lot skinnier,
Stylish,
And pretty.
She looks in a magazine
Wishing it could be her
She tries to imagine
Being a little bit prettier
With every curse they say to her
It kills her
Like a thousand knifes stabbing her
She cries at this site
That she’s destined to keep
She goes home at night
And continues to weep
All she wants is beauty
Is it too much to ask?
She wants to be accepted
With style and class
She wants to be the girl
That makes peoples heads turn
Instead of being the girl
That has a messed up world
She can’t live with all this pain
She cries till she sleeps
Practically going insane
She’s rejected from everywhere
And gets put down here and there
She walks down the street
Unnoticed and incomplete
Just because no one notices her
When you see her
You see just see an ugly girl
When she sees you
She just wishes you could help her
You look at her not knowing what’s going on inside
She holds it back
But she can’t keep up this lie
She prays to God every time you stare
That you would try to help her
But all you do is glare
She sees you as her last hope
You just see her as a girl trying to cope
People tell her what counts is what’s is inside
But she knows its all lies
Because in this world you have to look good to survive
They tell her you need to have confidence in yourself
But when she starts to gain confidence
They tear her down and make her feel horrible about herself
They don’t understand the words they say
Can change someone’s life
In every way
She’s been rejected her whole life
Because she was the black sheep
Her life is all strife
And she continues to weep
She has thoughts if she died
Would anyone even care?
Or would they say
Who’s she…Oh who cares?
She can’t go on living like this
What people have said scarred her for life
So even when she grows up
She’ll remember the kids that ruined her life
She’ll never have the confidence in herself
So she might as well end her life by herself
She lies in her room
Crying from the pain they caused
Praying someone would come in
And stop her from what she’s about to cause
She prays to God one last time
Thinking if she should turn around
But she’s already made up her mind
She hears God’s voice softly whisper in her ear
“I made you beautiful.”
“Don’t do this to yourself.”
Her eyes got teary and full
But it was too late she had already cut herself
She didn’t regret what was about to happen
Because once she felt that last bit of pain
She’d never have to feel pain again
This girl died
Because of peoples words
They never knew what was inside
And how much it hurts
The things they said to be popular or fit in
Killed her on the outside
And deep down within
Society has changed beauty into looks
She wanted to be accepted
So she did everything it took
Her schoolmates regret the curses they’ve said
They’ll never forgive themselves
It’ll stay in their heads
So the next time you put someone down
To look cool or fit in
Remember, the person is dieing
Outside and in
She died because she couldn’t take the hurt
And you killed her because of your words
