The choosing

by LuAnne   Jul 23, 2004

Is this really the start?
If I look out far enough I can almost see the horizon,
The place where it ends.
Where there is no more.
Life is done, yet it’s just begun.
They say the journeys’ long,
But if it really were,
The miles it covers,
Would just barley be done.
So when you look back at your past,
And into your future.
Just know the distance it seems,
Is hardly what it is.
Almost like a scale,
It’s minimized, so small.
By the time the futures here,
It’s all ready your past.
So choose your choices wisely,
For there might not be time to go back.

I love the idea behind this poem. It's something we should all think about once in a while. I would say, as a word of advice, and only because i am trying to do the same myself. Your work obviously comes from strong feelings and questions, and there can be a habit, when on feels this strongly about a subject, to not be objective and metaphoric. The words come out in a simple literal sense...which is fine, but not very good poetry.

Maybe you could think about this.
