Bottle of Sin

by Brandon Evans   Jul 23, 2004

So drained and tired
A disease no rest can cure
Clear intoxicant, an easy medication
Can’t resist its welcoming demure

Life, empty as this bottle
Is that just my cynical perspective?
Others can find joy in everyday folly
Perhaps my life was defective

Encompassed by trivial pursuit
Impelled by the almighty dollar
They’ve created a material world
Silenced our soul’s desperate holler

How could one take pleasure?
Living only to obtain and acquire
Death reclaims my possessions
I need some greater desire

Wealth and happiness alike
Stolen from us in the end
Love and life follow suite
Still it’s okay, we pretend

There may be no meaning to life
It’s something I may never know
For now I’ll relax with my bottle of sin
And enjoy my role in this “show”...

Thank you all for your comments.

I did not expect many people to agree with the logic behind it, but afterall it's just one more point of view.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised that it got as high of a rating as it did. Thanks again to all!

    Hey,
Cool poem, it had a really weird topic, but I liked it. Michelles right, it's pretty cynical, but true. The last line always seems to rhyme a little awkwardly. Just trying to help, keep writing.

Hi! It is a bit cynical but true as well, much of it...people do tend to just aquire aquire, what more can I get??? And we can't take any of it with us in the end...for myself, as long as I'm happy that's all I care not what I have..thx for the comment on my poem as well, will read the rest of your that I've missed later this weekend..I enjoyed this one..Michelle :) (and Craig!)
