Petals Remain (Petrarchan Sonnet)

by Brandon Evans   Jul 31, 2004

Look in my eyes for hours
You still won’t know who I am
Heart you offered; but a sacrificial lamb
Only yours and mine, there cannot be an “ours”

Keep your fate and spiritual powers
Lies put in your head; not but a scam
“We don’t belong together”, I told you as I ran
You know better by now, why still keep my flowers?

I never wanted to hurt you; you’re not the one I fear
You are a perfect woman, perfect in every way
I need some time alone, my head I need to clear
Live your life without me, forget this trifle dismay
I’m not who you think I am, please go on my dear
Someone better is waiting for you to drop my bouquet

    Thanks Trincy, that's exactly it.

I read your sonnet, excellent work!

  • Oh yaa. i forgot to say.. Good petrarchan Sonnet. I too have one. IT's called "The Beggar"

  • That reminds me of some one. Some one, whom i had to disappoint. But love has its way... You can't force it. The poem was so true. At least for me. You have to let go, those who are not yours. May be it will hurt them..but thats the right decision. Thanks for sharing this.
