Coma Dust

by Brandon Evans   Aug 2, 2004

Smiles and laughter your guise
You never told us the truth
Resent and angst stored deep within
Stemming from painful youth

We never heard your cries for help
Your screams were done in silence
The outside seemed all so normal
Yet life you lived in defiance

Broken home, poignant memories
They led you off your chosen path
Friends gave way to powder and mirrors
Dove without care of its inevitable wrath

Consumed your mind and body
Your “out” became your bane
One night we got the doctor’s call
You OD’ed on your precious cocaine

Over three years have passed
But still you’re in our heart
“Best of friends”, just words now
That night we fell apart

Neither dead nor alive
Alone, you’re trapped in slumber
Body is there, but mind is gone
Drugs had gotten your number
