Walls

by Brandon Evans   Aug 3, 2004

Ego, built on suffocating walls
Casting shadows upon his heart
Yearning for liberation, halted
He didn’t know where to start

His walls became a dependency
He couldn’t see any other way
Doors blinded shut with mental blockades
Darkness, a world set to stay

Clawing, tearing, begging
Searching for a hidden relief
What wasn’t brought could never be found
His bags, packed only with grief

Falling to knees in dismay
Just another book for the shelf
The suffering now that is his life
He brought upon himself

Ill past is a vicious monster
It rapes at every chance
Mind needs not protection
Walls, lull in to its trance

Release takes more than effort
Sometimes, it can’t be done alone
Realize now, what demands change
And never, never postpone…
