A good surprise (Sonnet Sequence-I)

by Ş∂ņďħy∂   Aug 3, 2004

A sonnet sequence is a series of sonnets in which there is a discernable unifying theme, while each one retains its own structural independence.

Part-1
(Tercet Sonnet: aaabbbcccdddee)

He took me for a trip, the just we two!
To the most romantic place, I ever knew
The place had the most desirable and beautiful views

The air was filled with romance, so verve
Each scene in the journey, so salient to observe
Through the misty forests, passing hairpin curves,

We reached the peaks and stood between the clouds
The hoisting emotions couldn't be shrouded
Our lips got locked ignoring the entire crowd

The beguiling fragrance from the strewn tea stalls,
The pedal boating, near the milky waterfalls,
Every memory was so gorgeous as I recall

For me it was a celestial place, if not for others
It reflected all the love we had for one another

Part-2
Spenserian sonnet: abab bcbc cdcd ee

All of a sudden I felt so declining
Something is going wrong with me
I am not sure what I am feeling
I think I am falling from the acme

He made me sit down, beside a tree
His lips were moving but I heard nil,
I tried to say I am okay, but he disagreed
The tea estate was turning to a gray hill

Some body gave me water and a pill
How did it become night so soon?
Everything is dark and so still
Looks like, I am getting a swoon!

I had a last coup d\'oeil of my dear
Before every sense of mine disappeared

Part-3
English (or Shakespearean) sonnet: abab cdcd efef gg .

I got up with a warm kiss on my eyes
He was standing beside, with a tiny smile
I am in a dull shaded room of a hospice
He said that I had fainted for a while

I felt so bad for messing up the jaunt
But he calmed me down, and said its okay
To leave this room, was all what I wanted
He forced me to wait for the doctor?s say

We were stuck up in this room, for hours!
Missing all the fun and tied up so bored!
To cheer me up, he got some flowers
But, I started to feel, again something odd

More we disquieted, with the doctor?s delay
One thing was sure that I spoiled the day

Part-4
(Sicilian Sonnet: abababab cdecde)

I was not feeling well on and off
The doctor came to visit, after our long wait
Looking at our worried faces, he started to scoff
That didn?t make us smile, but did irritate
The doc said that there was nothing for him to doff
I could happily go home and enjoy with my mate
It seems, for the love we shared God was paying off
Now onwards some one else will interfere our fate

He said, God had kept a good surprise for us
He told my husband something, which I didn?t hear
Impetuously, I felt my husband turned nuts, maybe!
Kissing me, praising me, and content in excess!
He lifted me in his arms, and whispered in my ear
?Oh my dear, we are going to have our first baby!?

Trincy this is simply amazing..I am always inspired with your work and also how you manage to write in different forms...breathtaking, can't wait to read the next part!!!! Michelle :)

  • Danielle, Not all sonnets have to have 10 syllables. But some do. Some require alternative stressed and unstressed syllables too. I picked the easy ones. Which only concentrates on rhymes! lol!
I read yours. It's an awesome poem.
