Drums of War

by Deaths Maiden   Aug 5, 2004

We’re the soldiers of freedom,
Marching by the drums of war,
It’s the beating of this lowly tune,
That makes us bleed for more.

To fight for what’s right and wrong,
It’s why we live today,
Killing the enemy and driving them from our shores,
For us it’s the only way.

Can you hear the beating?
Tis the beating of the drums of war,
Marching us towards the battle,
We’ll fight stronger than ever before.

Through the fighting our blood stains the war fields,
The men scream in pain,
Despite all this we never give up,
It’s our courage that keeps us sustained.

There are times we’ve come so close to victory,
We thought we saw the day,
Through the dark we saw the light,
Of hope shining our way.

But still no matter where we are,
The drums of war beat on,
Calling us to the endless war,
It’s our pride that keeps us strong.

We almost thought our battles were over,
We finally thought we won,
But then drums of war were sounded, “The fight has only just begun.”

Until the drums stop beating,
Shall we stop the war,
Peace shall never embrace these lands,
Until we fight some more.

Will we be remembered?
Will they understand?
That it was us who sacrificed our lives, our bodies,
Just to protect this land.

It’s our mission to be set free,
And bring peace to our shores,
But with the drums still beating strong,
We’ll continue to fight these raging wars.

For now tis only a dream,
It shall never be,
Until the war is over,
only then can we be set free.

Bound eternally to the drums of war,
Longing to be free.

In dedication for all the Australian Troops...
