Many Men Dead

by DMG   Aug 5, 2004

On my knees in my room looking at God to pray
For the many men who probably got shot today.
I imagine a picture in my mind of a time
When a friend ran loose squeezing a nine.
I'm yelling, “Somebody stop him, he's lost his mind!”
And now I've lost a friend whose life was close to mine.
So I drop to my knees today to pray
For the many men dead, so many men dead.

Is there a Hell for the bad or a Heaven for the good?
Is there a poor man in the city or a rich man in the hood?
I think these things, but is there a point for our thoughts?
We'll all be dead soon, but soon enough I think not.
Is it better to die early or better to live a long life?
The longer you live you'll be faced with greater strife.
Will we be remembered when we lie in our coffins?
Will our enemies' hearts be softened?

Many unanswered questions I have still remain,
Like would we feel joy if we didn't feel pain?
How can we abhor if we cannot adore?
Can we feel hate if we don't love anymore?
Is there a point to the lives we live?
Is there a real difference between adults and kids?
Law says at twenty-one that we can drink.
Does this mean when we are twenty that we can't think?
Life it too short to live with so many rules,
But in today's world it'd be wrong to live like fools.

Sometimes I think about the afterlife.
Sometimes I question God, why the strife?
I wonder if under us is another world,
Where the nation is governed bye a girl.
Some men on this world ask why I say this.
Our world is filled with sexists and rapists.
I really want to escape all the prejudices,
To where a Jew and Muslim can share kisses.
To where two women can elope,
And two men read vows which they wrote.
Where we can all be what we want to be.
I dream of a place of this serenity.
Americans are free, or so it seems.
We are only truly free in our dreams.

Gandhi Was a fool thinking he could bring peace.
All he left with us is a dead legacy.
He believed that he could bring hate down.
But Hitler's killing people all over town.
It's a prejudice and hateful world that we live in.
It forever will be as long as there's religion,
Genders, differences, and races.
There will always be discriminatory racist faces.
So until the day all this hate lets up.
All of Earth's people will remain fed up.
I can't live another day walking down a street
With a thousand racists staring at me.
So as long as I'm alive I will despise
All the millions and millions of racist eyes.

All are different though some types are looked down on.
I've seen a black man beaten, but do nothing wrong.
I've seen Arabs cursed at for the Twin Towers.
And Japanese men bombed by verbal showers.
Whites being called crackers, Jews being called kykes,
Gay men and women being called fags and dykes.
See, I've never understood what hate is for,
So I pray for a day where there's hate no more.
But I fear that day will never come,
And we wonder why my friend shot himself with a gun.

With all this said we can now understand
Why my friend ran with a gun in his hand.
He and those he took are possibly free
To act however they wish to be.
On my knees in my room looking at God to pray
For the many men who probably got shot today.
We wonder why some men wish to die,
But after thinking about it we can realize.
Our minds don't chose suicide.
It's brought to us by the world outside.
If you had seen him still alive,
You could tell the truth in his eyes.
Though he's holding a gun to his head,
His heart was filled with love to live, not to be dead.
He'd have stopped if he had a choice,
But he couldn't silence his inner voice.
You could see the fear when he held the trigger.
He pulled his finger in, his eyes got bigger.
That was the end, end of it all.
A life was over at the body's fall.
