I had to give up

You wrote me poetry
and told me the things I needed to hear.
I came to you for every problem
you made the right choice become more clear.

You told me I'm cute
and then not to tell my boyfriend.
"Don't tell him I said you're pretty"
We both knew he would have brought your life to an end.

You said you'd always love me,
You'd always be there.
But where are you now?
I thought you said you'd always care.

Now conversations turn awkward
there's no flirtation to sense
no testing the lines
Everything is so tense.

Where are you right now?
Do you ever think of me?
I need you right now.
This is where I need you to be.
