Walk Away

by Zachariah Jones   Aug 9, 2004

Heavy footsteps hit the cracked concrete
Spider-webbed with pain and toil
Cracks forming where none were before
Scars appear on my open heart
Sore and aching from the pain that dwells inside
Holding open hands over my chest
Agony bleeding through open fingers
Stuck on the last shred of hope inside
Raindrops of red stain the ground
Dried rose petals fallen upon the choking thorns
Camouflaged amongst the spiritual debris
Falling down upon the blackened concrete
A hidden message is formed through the cracks
Pain so unbearable, tearing my skin open
Attempting to rip my own heart out of my chest
Pain is too much to bear at times, not able to cope
Reaching through the viscera and skeletal remains
Bars of iron surround my agonizing heart
I’m no longer able to walk away from what I feel
