This is me

by Rita   Aug 9, 2004

She never says the wrong things
because no one knows of her secret life
smiling to the world
through all her pain and strife.
she cant give up now,
because already its far too late.
the clock has now stuck midnight
what lies will be her fate

shadowing away from herself
trying to escape,
she screams out for help
but already it is too late
her screams get louder
with each cut she makes
she swallows hard
and dares to make a mistake.

tears run down her cheekbones
as she tries to wipe them away
depriving herself of life,
her vision begins to sway.
she takes one last look around her
and prays this isnt the end,
but what would happen if she survived?
it would only begin again.

awaiting her death she bleeds,
and coats her sheets with red,
in only a matter of hours
this young woman will be dead.

but suprisingly in the background,
there comes a sudden twist
she hears sirens bellowing
and someones touching her wrist.
she tries to open her eyes
but all she sees is black
shes in her imaginary world
and shes never coming back.

she can feel herself being carried
and waking up somewhere new.
shes not alone now,
theres nothing that she can do.
she awakes the next morning,
in a red stained hospital bed.
she hears voices all around
i think shes awake someone said.

she sat up straight, and looked around,
flowers and cards covered the ground.
she was sent to a hospital to be treated
where she could finally find her addiction
and defeat it.

the raindrops hit the windshield
an end coming to this beautiful day
smiling to herself,
shes going to be okay.

a close encounter with death,
she stares at her arms and legs
the scars that cut so deep into her
have faded throughout the days.
she looks at the sky
and the rain it brings
she never says the wrong things.
