Black and Poison Flowers

by Katie Silva   Aug 11, 2004

My tears create a river
For the poison flowers to drink
They grow taller than i am
Within them i do shrink

They enjoy their time using me
With thorns they scratch my skin
Constantly i try to break free
But love wont let me in

All day and all night
They will continue to grow
They laugh at me for i am weak
And my river continues to flow

They choke me through the years
Still i lye in this deadly place
They become stronger through my tears
Streaming down my face

They've grown so tall above me
That i live in their dark shadow
And as the pain grows along with them
My tears will always follow

I still await on the sun deprived grass
As the black flowers take my soul
I long for love to save me now
To make my empty life become whole

Great poem, the poisonous flowers could be many things, but I would interpret them as your fears and disappointments in life. I noticed that in your poem you used "lye" instead of "lie", and I wondered whether that was a mistake, or whether you used it as a pun, since lye is a substance that eats flesh.
