Reaching In

Before you begin to judge me,
On my superficial being,
I can assure you I am more than what your eyes can see.
Hold your thoughts, hold you’re unruly expressions,
Before you see right through me let us begin and try…

Reaching in.
To my heart and soul,
Where my true self sleeps and my secrets lay untold.
Before you see my differences, I have to let you know,
That within lay my feelings that I wish to bestow.
But you refuse to see in to me you can only reprimand,
I only wish to share these feelings, if only you could understand…

That I’m different because I choose to be,
You think I am strange but I’m just being me,
The garments I wear should not be of shame,
For I don’t wish to change just to be rid of your pain.
Why can’t you accept me? What did I do?
I’ve always been an outcast I have never been accepted as one of you.
Before I continue can I ask if I yet belong,
If not now allow me to carry on…

Because the more tears I cry,
You continue to ignore and just past me by.
I feel that all I may be,
Is just an illusion that you do not wish to see.
Am I a Gothic is that who I truly am?
I don’t see myself as one and that is where all my troubles began.
I do not see myself as one I am not who you think I may be,
So please stop insulting and labelling me.
I am no witch I do not worship the devil,
I am no junkie; I’m definitely no rebel.
Have I reached you yet? Have you reached me within?

Reaching in,
For I am human too,
It hurts when the taunts and deceit come from you.
I have feelings that you hurt and a heart that you continue to break.
Please try giving before you decide to take.
I am not a bad person, I only wish for you to see,
Beyond the clothing and look inside, the person I call me.
For inside is a person willing to give,
A person wanting to shine, a person wanting to live.
How can I do so if I am so depressed?
I can assure you now that I am not doing it to impress.
Do you not understand yet? Have I not reached you?
For I only ask that you change the things you say and do…

Because like you, I too have a dream, a goal,
And that is for someone to reach into my soul,
To see my true self and accept me for me,
The true, loving person that I hope to be.
So please before you judge me, try looking within,
Try seeing into my heart, try reaching in.
