The Answer I'm without

by dandy   Aug 13, 2004

Silence surrounds me,
I strain to hear.
I squint trying to see,
but the fog has got to clear.
It hangs heavy and low,
settling down like a cloud.
Things are screaming in my head,
these thoughts are too loud!
The fog is now choking,
I begin to gasp and cough.
My eyes are blurry,
I'm getting dizzy,
but I have to shake it off.
If I let go now,
I'll never know what awaits
around the bend.
I can't give up, I must go on
I won't let this be the end.
I manage to stay up on my feet,
but I'm weary, I want to cry.
I'm not sure why I want to live,
but I do not want to die.
Suddenly the fog is lifting,
I can breath and I can see.
The turn is now just up ahead,
only severl steps in front of me.
What's around this bend?
I want to go and find out.
But just then, my alarm clock rings,
and the answer I'm without.

Great poem. I 'agreed' with it all the way through..thinking this is a good take on life..then that twist at the end - again equally realistic, changed the perspective completely..made me think
