Somewhere Between Sleep and the Dawn

by craig   Aug 13, 2004

Clouds quench a moonbeam, decaying the light
touching skin and bone, eternal night
tempestuous storms sodden my feet
roaming through wet mirror-like streets
sinking further from out of sight
hearing sinister lullaby's, eternal night

Wild animals scream from across the moors
everyone safe behind closed doors
hark! carnivorous winds howl an ancient curse
intoning black wishes through demonic verse
grim shadows creep fulfilling dark lore
everyone hiding behind locked doors

On the wind is caught a baby's cry
betraying the fears behind everyones eyes
deep rooted woes cling like the rain
as dead ravens arise and take flight again
estranged hopes choke as they wriggle and die
justifying the fear behind everyones eyes

Voices whisper but there`s no one around
coming from somewhere beyond silence and sound
icy tingles shoot down my back
senses reel from an imaginary attack
muted footsteps echo through the empty town
I turn on my heels but there's no one around

Struggling to awake from this eternal night
but Ive no energy to care, let alone fight
dark forces prevail and dance just out of view
encircling, encroaching, advancing two by two
I relinquish my will, resigned to my plight
and surrender my fate to this eternal night
