Twilight Love

by Bryce Ellner   Aug 15, 2004

I remember it well
That night we met
At a party of friends
We came inside to escape from being wet.

As the storm thundered outside
So inside did the dancing.
I didn't know how, so I sat alone
Watching everybody else twisting and twirling.

Then I saw her across the room
Watching from her chair.
I could see she longed to dance as well.
But only sat there twirling her hair.

The song ended then
And suddenly went slow
The color of the room changed.
To different colors of the rainbow.

The whole room quieted,
As many got their partner.
Until no one was left but me and her
Who had still gone no farther.

I don't know why she wasn't asked
She was beautiful as the moon
And I knew if I didn't act,
The song would be over soon.

I summed up my courage
And stood from my seat.
Some of my friends watched and smiled,
As I rose to my feet.

I walked over to her
And she looked up at me.
Her soft eyes wondering
Probably thinking 'Who could this be?'

I only smiled and held out my hand,
And she looked at it for a moment
Then slowly she took it,
And on to the floor we went.

We danced the night away,
And we only danced together
And as the silvery rain came to a stop,
I almost thought it would last forever.

To this day I still remember
Those last words she said to me.
We promised to meet again
And she said "Save the last dance...for me."
