Death of an Angel

by Unseen Exposure   Aug 15, 2004

** I know it's long, but if you have time, please read it! :-) **

I watched you from a distance,
As you made your last mistake,
I tried to run and save you,
But I was much too late,
You fell down on your knees,
And screamed and cried in pain,
The torture you went through,
It will never be the same,
I held you in my arms,
As you faded into the night,
And when your soul broke free,
Your wings did take their flight,
You didn't even see me,
Like I wasn't really there,
When I held you by my side,
And tenderly stroked your hair,
You had not yet been chosen,
But you ignored the signs,
And I was the appointed angel,
To hold you while you died,
And when I saw you in heaven,
You slowly walked away,
Ignoring all that I did,
To help you on that day,
Just then my wings collapsed,
And I fell beneath the skies,
I passed all those on earth,
Straight to where the devil lies,
When I landed there in hell,
The devil gave a laugh,
He said “My angel darling,
The hands of time you can't turn back,
Do you remember what happened,
The night your love did die?
I think that you've forgotten,
For it's too painful in your mind,
It was you that held the knife,
It was you that plunged it in,
It was you that caused his death,
And his suffering deep within,
Now my fallen angel,
The Lord has sent you here,
A once precious angel,
Sent to hell to disappear,
Now I'll lock you in this cage,
Before I throw you in the fire,
You will never be forgiven,
For fulfilling your last desire,
You have one last chance for words,
To say all you need to say,
But please be quick now angel,
We haven't got all day”,
I wiped a tear from my eye,
And slowly took a breath,
I had no words of choice,
That could replace a mistaken death,
I bent my head in sorrow,
And said “Lord I have sinned,
I didn't mean to hurt him,
It was the devil here within,
Now I stand before you all,
Inside this burning cage,
Apologizing for an action,
Committed out of rage,
So after I am gone, Lord,
I'm asking for forgiveness,
Because although you don't believe me,
It was not me who did this.”
And with those last few words,
The cage was pushed below,
And no one made a sound,
When through the ashes her soul rose.
