Life As A Spider's Web

by Bryce Ellner   Aug 16, 2004

I walked 'long the brittle path
'Long the rock between the flames.
The heat seemed intensified.
But yet I felt naught of the pain.

This I was used to,
I'd been treading this path a long time.
Avoiding the pitfalls and the fire
Trying to stay walking that line.

If I stray but a little
It would mean my peril
The pillars of fire would consume me
Without so much as a farewell.

But thats how it is, isn't it,
As we walk the path of life?
Danger waits on either side
Danger, fighting, pain, and strife.

Occasionally there's a fork
Which helps us decide our fate.
You can't go back once you've chosen,
For by then it's much too late.

Sometimes there's a crossing
Where two of us meet in the middle.
We choose then whether to regard them as friends
Or sever their thread from us where it is brittle.

It's a web that everyone walks
Strung over a lake of fire.
And no matter what we do in life
We're still walking it, never tired.
