Child of Darkness (Elemental Offspring Poem II)

by Bryce Ellner   Aug 22, 2004

The shadows compelled her
So she never left them.
She kept only to the dark
Secretly being consumed within.

So quiet, she never said a word.
She just faded out of view.
And no one seemed to noticed
Why she had gone askew.

Maybe it was the pressure?
No that couldn't be it...
Could it have been the teasing?
But she never paid attention to that.

It was calling her
She was forced to answer.
The darkness drew her in
And her life fell even faster.

And so another dark day sets
And she wanders endlessly through the abyss.
Hoping, praying for a way out.
That saving grace...is her only wish.

(If you don't quite get the poem...the darkness is referring to depression. Again, I wrote this little group of poems when I first started writing.)
