Right Here

by SamiJo   Aug 22, 2004

I really didn't know you all that well
but we were always friends
we could sit at the pool,
and talk for hours on end
it hurts to see you now,
helpless, with nothing to say
knowing there's really nothing we can do
and sitting down to pray
i have faith that everything will go well
and soon you'll be back home
even though we've only hung out a few times,
i can't imagine if you were gone
everyone wants to see you,
some are staying right by your side,
it hurts so bad to know all this happened,
just by taking a simple ride.
i sit here and think about your blonde hair
always falling in front of your face
flipping your head and watching it,
fall right back into place
you've got such a bright future,
valedictorian of your class,
and we'll all be here right by your side
until all of this has passed.

I know you want criticism on most of your poems, but as a rule I don't really critique poems that are emotional and personal, because who gives a damn about rhyme and rhythm and poetic devices and symbolism when your friend is hurt. All I can say is I thought the rhyming was fairly natural, and that the rhythm was pretty consistent, and that the lack of poetic devices is understandable because this poem is a "talking" poem, as if you are addressing someone directly.
