The Death of Catherine Porter Part 1

~A Shadow in the Moonlight~

It was just about twilight
As he headed toward home
He heard a soft speak down towards the floor
But when he saw nothing, that is what I though.

He hadn't the need to slow down anyway
And he leaned one arm on the window.
And he gazed out left towards the trees passing by,
Not a mile or so out of town.

He only saw her for a second
Walking in the middle of the road.
He slammed on the breaks
But they wouldn't go.

Ten seconds later
His car came to a stop
And he gripped hard the wheel.
Did he dare look back?

All of a sudden he felt cold
Because something ran through his head
There had been no sound
Nor jerk from the impact.

His hand shook hard
As he reached for the door.
He struggled to still it
But the calm wouldn't come.

He heard the click
And he pushed open the dor
Peaking out the side
Seeing only the lake mist.

He stepped out and away
And looked all around
He had seen her, clear as day.
But there was no body...just cold..bare ground.
