Suicides Lullaby

by Daphne Darling   Aug 24, 2004

Suicides Lullaby.

My ears are blasting,
One thing only do I hear,
Not your voice,
Not your shouts,
Why are you so unfair,
Just let me slip into sleep,
My eyes are drooping,
I know you can see this,
Why oh why,
Why do you still hold on?
This lullaby is so soothing,
Why can’t you let me slip into it?
Let me close my eyes and sleep,
I need only this of you,
Leave me be,
As I start to step away,
Into this blinding light,
Your hand is holding me back,
Come on why cant you let me go,
Why can’t you let me go now?
These crimson lines aren’t yours,
Why are you holding on?
Come on let me go,
The lullaby is calling me,
I can’t wait for the sleep to come,
I'm jumping for the chance,
Why the hell are you holding me back?
I can't wait forever,
I can't stand all this for all time,
Step back,
Leave me alone,
Suicides lullaby has taken hold of me,
It’s not going to let me back,
So let go,
Forget,
I need to go now,
Its callen,
And it’s taken,
Suicides lullaby.

Hey. You need to shove a couplemore apostrophes into the last three lines, but I'll let you hunt down where, it'll be exciting. Anyway, I thought that your use of sleep as a metaphor for death was...well not cliche but common. However the lullaby aspect of it made the whole poem er... not cliche... oh right, original. In Robert Frost's Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening, he uses the metaphor of a dark and deep wood to symbolize death, so maybe in future poems you can explore other metaphors for suicide and death.
