The Death of Catherine Porter Part II

The Memory That Wouldn't Stay Lost

Later that same week
He stood over-looking the sea
It was dark yet again
But he loved the sound of the waves.

As they rolled in
The mist blanketed his face
And just before he turned to leave
He saw a glint of silver near the beach.

In wonder, he started toward it
As if it called to him.
The waves washed over his jeans
As he bent to pick it up.

In his hand he held a locket
With a fairly old design.
He couldn't get it open
The sea had rusted it shut.

He turned it over in his hands
Caressing the chain,
And on the back were two letters.
C and P.

Later that night when he got home
He finally got it open.
He was almost scared to look inside
But he overcame and did.

Inside were two pictures
Though faded from the water
One of them was of a man
Though face rang no bell.

In the other was a soman
Who made him gasp in fright,
For staring back at him with sea green eyes,
Was the girl he though he killed on that dark, eerie night.
