Theres so much more to a teenager

by Keanna Hopkins   Aug 26, 2004

There is so much hurt and happiness
Wound up in just one being
There is more to each and every person
Than the world is seeing

People are always hiding
Their real inner selves
They wish to say so much more
But stubbornly close their mouths

Day by day life passes
And people walk by in ignorance
Changing themselves, but overrating
Popularitys significance

And yet so many are fooled
And stand back and pretend
That everything is all right
And everyone is their friend

But this is not the truth
In so many different cases
Cause behind your back theres a different vibe
Than is printed on their faces

By day they act one way
And by night another
Changing for people they dont know
Why should they even bother?

And then theyre hit with problems
The average person cannot take
School starts to seem irrelevant
And the things that were clear turn opaque

Socializing becomes unimportant
Now that people prefer their rooms
They are faced with more hectic situations
And their hearts have to move on too soon

If some overcome lifes obstacles
There are still others that can drag them back
Causing the fighters to wave the white flag
For ambition needs hope, and thats what they lack!
Cause its hard to pay attention
When no one seems to care
Its hard to keep a smile
When boredoms everywhere

Waking up becomes a chore
When they know what will happen that day
And as it gets dark they notice
The indifference from yesterday

Dont take judgment against teenagers
For there is so much that they go through
Bedtime stories get replaced
By forests of emotions, overdue

Adolescence is very complicated
And it can weaken the strongest hearts
But they have to learn to salvage their hope
Before the surrendering starts

Cause though it feels life is repetitive
Change comes with every season
No matter how good or bad it gets
It all happens for a reason

When I was a teenager all my poems started with "roses are red".
    Great work.
