Isn't it time?

by Mephastophilis   Aug 27, 2004

I've heard many theories about how and why the world will end
World War Three, deforestation are just two off the top of my head
But I say they're all wrong, the answer exists and is widespread
Ignorance is the problem that we must work together to mend.

The mass media is a sheepdog, and we the sheep, follow religiously
We never stop to question it, what happened to individuality?
We follows its view on fashion, agree with it politically
Some care more about Britney's hair colour than they do of people dying

You think the streets are dangerous, ever heard of deviancy amplification?
Crime went down by 20% but media coverage increased, what's the notion?
FBI checking up on people, blacklisting those who encourage rebellion
What ever happened to free speech? Governments are deceiving whole nations.

Now I bet I know what you're thinking she sixteen, what does she know about life?
Well I grew up with people around me dying, in a little village where disease was rife
I lost my best friend to malaria; she was 7 years old when she followed the light
And although I know she's in heaven, it still doesn't make what happened to her right.

And I bet you've got pair of Nikes- by any chance do you know how they were made?
Did you know they've got kids as little as five, risking their live everyday to get paid
And all for five measly dollars, no life is worth such a small wage
But when you're poor and you're hungry, you take anything that comes your way.

And there are so many things I could write about, the world's so messed up its amazing
There are so many things that I think about, talk about and worry myself about daily
I try to tell people but they don't care, it all so f**king frustrating
When a solider dies in Iraq there's an uproar, but millions in Africa dye daily

And who knows if one of those dead now could have discovered the cure for Aids?
No one does and no one ever will, isn't it time that we changed ours ways?

Thanks every1 for all the lovely comments. i appreciate them all. to shadowmaker- thanks for the comments, i understood most of it apart from the thing about mosquitoes but thanks a lot again- this was my first draft of the poem and i was tempted to change it and inprove it but i decieded to keep it this way because i wrote it from from my heart and i wrote the first things that came into my mind. I don't want it to be perfect, i like its imperfections, do you get what i mean? nothings perfect anyways, especially not this world. xmollyxx
