My Mommy

by Ashley   Aug 29, 2004

I’m old enough now to take care of myself,
And I know you probably feel unneeded now.
Like a prize trophy collecting dust on a shelf,
But I need you to help me and to show me how.

How to love, how to care,
How to need, how to want,
How to speak with my own voice,
How to be an individual,
Yet, how to work well with other’s

You’ve come on this journey with me
You’ve provided me with stability.
Over time you’ve watched me grow.
You’ve helped me learn everything I know.

I wish I could say I was a mother,
To let my children know how proud they make me.
And to let them know I learned from the best,
But all that … I have to look forward to!!

Soon I will be off to college,
The first time I will really be without you.
Cause I’m not quite ready for something new.
I want what’s familiar, that’s everything I see,
Everything I know, that’s you.

But I want you to know
That I’ll be ready for anything that comes my way
Because you taught me how,
So I’ll be prepared for that day!
