Being Myself

I walk down the stone steps
Through the rusty gates
A world of hidden torment
Secretly awaits

Shift the backpack nervously
From one shoulder to another
Silently wishing
That i could run and hide for cover

Taking a big breath
I walk across the grounds
Ignoring the stares
I try not to make a sound

I find a place to sit
And quietly wait
For the signal its begun
Inside me is only hate

Soon the bell sounds
Like a foghorn in the mist
Its off to class now
God, I really hate this

I walk through the halls
Whispers and stares
Rumours spread like wildfire
I try hard not to care

I sit in the back
Where i cant be seen
Hiding in the shadows
Escaping into dreams

Time drags so slowly
I watch the clock upon the wall
Is it just my imagination
Or is it not moving at all?

I hear someone shout FREAK
As i go walking by
I pretend it doesn't bother me
And stick my middle finger high

Why don't i fit in?
Why don't i belong?
Is it cause I'm different?
Is being individual wrong?

If it is, then i guess i don't care
This is me
I wont change for anyone
You get what you see

I wont sacrifice my pride
To be one of the crowd
Id rather be myself
And stand up and be proud

You can tease me all you like
But i know your just afraid
To be like me
So in an image, you'll stay

In a world where nothing matters
But your make up, looks and hair
Where a unique personality
Is simply regarded with stares

Even though it hurts
To be treated like this
I wont let them win
Or cease to exist

This is my life
And I'm gonna live it right
I wont be their victim
I wont give up without a fight
