Sadness Within

I have my share of pain,
And I hide it with a mask,
You hear about my scars,
But I beg you, please don't ask,

I know you see these cuts,
Because you look at me with shame,
But you do not understand,
This razor is my claim,

The hurt inside my mind,
Effecting every bone,
In all my dying years,
I've never been so alone,

Terror now has stricken,
This life is falling apart,
I'm living in the shadows,
I'm living in the dark,

I'm not like everyone else,
Some days I don't breathe,
I go through all the motions,
But never do believe,

I've caused a number of problems,
Too many messes I have made,
And this smile on my mask,
Day by day shall fade,

How do I go on living?
When every day is just so hard,
And everybody knows about,
The stories on my arms,

These scars will never die,
Though most days I wish they would,
They're a part of me forever,
Engraved on me for good,

Why am I so sad?
I'm forgetting all the reasons,
I'm so caught up in anger,
I've lost track of every season,

My world is just so black,
I'm consumed with so much hate,
I'm broken and I'm alone,
I watch my happiness dissipate,

But I fight to be strong,
Even when weakness takes control,
I know someday, somehow,
I will break free from this hold,

Sadness is my enemy,
But it comforts me the most,
It holds it's own little party,
As a disappearing host,

After all the guests have gone,
I wallow in my sorrow,
I beg and plead to the pain,
To leave me alone tomorrow,

But never does it listen,
Sadness thrives inside my veins,
I'm forever surrounded in this darkness,
Forever in it's chains.
