He Leaves Me Sleep

by Ten Feet Tall   Sep 6, 2004

The morning sun bursts through the window.
I can feel him move on the bed.
He is awake and wanting to start the day.
He tries to wake me from a deep sleep.
He first tries talking to me.
With no chance of me waking,
He tries touching me.
Hand on my shoulder, then on my face.
Still I sleep.

He goes to the other side of the bed,
To plant a small kiss in the middle of my face.
I pry an eye open, but then roll over.
With that he realizes he must wait.
He lies next to me with his head on my arm.
I hear him breath slowly, in and out.
Content to be next to me.
The day can wait for us.
The cat and I sleep.
