You raise your child hoping they know what is right,
Not thinking you sent them off to fight.
You see them grow and change from year to year,
Know that not seeing them is your biggest fear.
Your husband and you let your love ring tried and true,
But when the call to war comes you don't know what to do.
You smile and with tears in your eyes you tell them to go,
But in your heart you are scared of the bigger show.
The stories past down of people coming home with a scar,
Some don't even know who they are.
Then there are ones that don't even coming home,
And your heart aches as their spirits are left to roam.
Then there are those who come home in pine,
The unlucky that are shot across the enemies line.
War makes mourners of us all,
For every patriot knows he must go when his county call.
But as parents, what can we really do
When we see our children slaughtered for governmental crew.
Will their sons and daughters receive the same fate as mine,
Will they die across the enemy line?
