As a chick I thought he would be no big deal,
But to my astonishment that was not to be real.
The times I had to chase him away from the dog that was going to bite,
Then there was the time he tried to jump out my window to try take flight.
A being as little as he could be,
Gave me little time to be free.
His constant chirp and pecking of this and that,
The games of hide and seek with the cat.
What could I say he was a job all to himself?
Hell I just wanted him to be taken by a helpful elf!!!
I made a shed for him and got a hen or two,
And to say thank you he woke me at 4am with Cock a doodle-do.
I rolled out of my bed and slammed the pane,
Then he called again while my ears took the strain.
I was tired of this pest that my wife had given to me,
I just wanted to be set free from his morning plea.
I finally was finally at my wits end and I knew what I had to do,
I was in a bloodthirsty mood wanting to let my hatchet fall true.
I placed his head on the log and went to do the rest,
But in the back of my mind I remember who got me this pest.
I felt sorry for the being and wanted him to live his life,
So the next morning when he called I threw a shoe so he would share my strife.
