Long Way Home

by Nikki Z   Sep 8, 2004

I take the long way home,
so i can be alone,
wishing i was with you,
around every corner i discover something new,
although i've seen it all a million times before,
thoughts of you consume my mind,
as i lose track of time,
the same routine night after night,
i find pleasure in my own pain,
i'm addicted to dreams of you and me,
it hurts to know that you're not mine,
but it's wonderful to think it could come true,
you're a mystery i can never understand,
you'll never understand me either,
opposites attract,
or so it's said,
but we're so different,
that we're almost the same,
there's no explanation for it,
quit overanalyzing our situation,
take me as i am,
i promise to make you happy,
if you promise not to make me sad,
now here i am with you beside me,
we sit in silence because its all been said,
the darkness around us is my best friend,
it hides the tears streaming down my cheeks,
the moonlight hidden behind the gloom,
is the symbol of my love for you,
shining bright all the time,
just waiting for its chance to break through,
i want so badly to hold you close,
just to show it's me who loves you the most,
i take a deep breath of your same breathing air,
i move in closer as you turn and stare,
by the look in your eyes i can see,
this is my chance,
so take it now,
or forever hold my peace,
i place my hands on your face and i kiss you for a moment...
it's straight from a movie,
i swear i saw sparks,
the angels were singing,
it's no longer dark,
my tears have run dry,
my dreams have come true,
here i am holding you...
i stayed for awhile,
but the time's come to leave,
you walk me outside,
as you start to speak,
the clouds have passed over,
the moons shining bright,
every star is twinkling on this cool September night,
i listen for those words i long to hear,
you whisper "I Love You",
as i shed one last tear.
