Behind My Mask

by Sean Allen   Sep 9, 2004

I walk through the hallways
With my confidence on my sleeves;
No doubts on the surface,
No hidden miseries.

I seem so smart and funny,
So intelligent and loud,
So graceful and sweet,
So righteous and proud.

No one seems to think
My mind needs rest.
I'll always finish my work,
Always pass that test.

But when I get home,
I can finally cry;
Away from all those people,
Away from all those lies.

I'm not super-human,
I'm just a normal boy,
I share your hopes and fears,
I share your happiness and joy.

I'm sorry if this seems like
Self-indulgent crap;
I wrote it to be free
From my self-destructive trap.

    I could have written that. I wore that same mask all through HS and still wear it sometimes. You did awesome job, with the wording and rhyming. I could feel the emotion. I bet it felt good to write that;)

    You really feel that way Sean? I mean, if you wanted to talk, why didn't you come to me? Well, i guess it would be wierd to tell me that my poem is a great read and all but don't be embarrassed.
    All joking aside, this was a good poem although the ryhming for "test" and "rest" does seem a bit forced. Honest though, if you'd like to talk, I'm here for you.
