It's Not Always Rainbows and Butterflies

by Eibutsina   Sep 14, 2004

I learnt so much at the youngest age
Life often turns an unpredictable page
That things are never quite as they seem
Once something is gone, it’ll never be like it’s been.
Life has got not just one main feature
Human being are by far the strangest creatures
And all that my writing this poetry implies
Is that its not always rainbows and butterflies.

Wounds may heal but the memories never fade
You cannot reverse the path you have laid
All that you do comes back to you by three
And the full picture is something you can never see.
Trust is frivolous and but a five letter word
You can never know love until you have been hurt
Your karma clings and has an eternal hold
Your conscience continues to grow with you old
These are but a few of the realities I’ve come to realise
That it’s not always rainbows and butterflies.

The world and time does continue to turn
The pain of a lost love will forever burn
There no such thing as what we call a true friend
Eventually all our existences come to an inevitable end.
Silence knows how to best speak the words of the heart
Too often people can’t accept that they are better apart
I know this is sad but my poem is true
It’s how I can share what I have learnt with you
I’ve never been one for conforms or complies
Because it’s not always rainbows and butterflies.

I will apologise to those who really do believe
That a majority of the world lives well and succeeds
It’s just the way of the world and matter of fact
Just questions of time till you are stabbed in the back.
It’s a war, a pointless fight you can never win
You’ll never be rid of that sadness within
There will be people you love and have to loose
And priorities between which you will have to choose.
Life is but an endless cycle of self-sacrifice
That is my perfect definition of what we call life
Now you have looked a while through my own eyes
You’ll know it’s not always rainbows and butterflies.

Maybe we should focus on how people said it was a great poem and how much they liked it rather than the more opinionated view of a few.

Well personally i liked the poem.
I don’t see what the problem is.
Are we allowed to use things that people have told us as our titles are we allowed to use ideas that come from our friends? our family? our minds? like really i just don’t.. egh anyway i shouldn’t dignify this critical garbage that these people are saying..
Great work Erisa i know that the poem was based on your personal feelings and struggles and must apologise for these small minded opinions that seem not to understand the meaning and intent of expression but i digress.
I like your reference to karma although my mind doesn’t believe in anything of spiritualistic nature, my heart sure does which is kinda hard to describe but your poem stimulates both which is a good thing.

I have top say im quite the opposite though, my younger life not that marvellous but still fairly uneventful, and the majority of my life’s experiences to this date have come this year... i dunno i think that the bliss of ignorance has its charm but its not something that i would wish to return to... i really should find a way of controlling myself from drifting.
I have to say you have taken my view of life well and its a good description on many aspects. I cant say that i am greatly experienced in pain and most people have seemingly had far worse experiences to my own but my prolonged ignorance to them has made me weaker...

The moral of the story is that you have written a great poem with your own feelings and thoughts, I hate to say that i agree with it but i do and i guess that’s just something we have to live with...

I know you have realised this and im sure that you'll be able to carry yourself through. Although life’s not all rainbows and butterflies, there is much beauty in this world and your own poetry is a shining example of it
