Faith Hope and Charity

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 15, 2004

There once, was a guilty man on a cross, who had nowhere and no way to run.
He said he was being crucified justly, for the awful things he had done.
Yes, he expected the earthly justice in an unforgiving world with a heart as cold as ice.
Imagine the surprise when he received heavenly mercy from the One he would meet in paradise.

This story is in the good book and I know it sounds absurd.
That this man could have this faith in Christ and never read his word.
Where did he get this faith, hope, and charity that relieved and freed him like a bird.
I'd bet the mighty Pharisees thought this was the craziest story that they'd ever heard.

How did Satan lose this soul, which must have run from the power of the Dove.
And waited to the very last minute to ask for help from above.
The good thief escaped the eternal damnation that should have fit him like a fitted glove.
The moral of this story is never under estimate the power of faith, hope, and love.

Of course, the poet does not wish to offend anyone, who would fill his heart with grief,
Just because he was able to understand, see the beauty of sweet relief.
The beauty we see, with 'spiritual eyes', and hope, love, and belief.
These are the awesome virtues, which we all can have that cannot be stolen by a thief.

As bad as I hate to reflect on it, this is for the people who see beauty in doubt, despair, and hate.
There was a criminal on the other side of Jesus who loved these things who had also waited to late.
But as I cannot see the beauty in doubt, despair, and hate.
I cannot see the beauty in his terrible awful fate.
