Time too short

by Fireflower   Sep 16, 2004

This little girl you see before you,
Lying in a hospital bed.
Just another infected child you think
Soon she will be dead.

So many other children you say
Suffer this same fate.
Too many you think
There time is just to late.

So when you see a child on the news,
Lying there knowing that they will die,
You've seen it so many times before,
That you don't even bother to cry.

You don't even think,
About the family that they had
Of how much mourning will be done
By their mom and dad.

This little girl before you,
Wasn't like anyone at all,
She was something special
She would be brilliant if death hadn't come to call.

She told her mom she wanted to be a scientist
So she could figure out why,
Just like her so many other children,
Would have to suffer and die.

She told her mom if she could live just long enough,
To find the long lost cure
She would finally be happy
That no other children would die for sure.

She was going to be a writer, She told her dad one day.
She was going to be a poet,
So people could hear what she had to say.

Her mom heard her one night,
While she was kneeling down to pray,
Please God, if you could,
Just let me live another day.

Now her soul is taken,
As she lies lifeless in the bed
Her parents mourning for her loss,
Endless tears they shed.

So take another look next time
When you glance at the screen,
If it was someone you knew,
Someone you love and truly need.
