My Gift

by Robert   Sep 17, 2004

I had loved her even from the day we met,
Hoping to cash in a kiss that won me a bet,
She was always in the light when I was in the shade,
But as we grew we found our feeling for each other would never fade.
We spoke of goals that we had and, what we would do,
Hoping that the love we felt was to be true.
Through it all the dances laughs and the tears,
We held each other up through the trying years.
Our first was a son I always wanted to hold,
Then came my daughter that is too bold.
The years have been kind to my wife and I,
And to this day I have no reason to ask her why.
The candles are set and the food is out,
And I hope my kids are pleasant but that fact I doubt.
The candles are lit and the light dances on the wall.
I rush to make the final touches before I hear her call.
Tonight I will do what I must to show her I care,
And through that we live in love hope never fearing despair.
I will hold her like the wife she is to me,
And I will love her tonight not out of lust but a feeling of being set free.
