Just last night

I woke up that sunny morning,
i didn't know it would be hell,
because i woke up to the sound,
of the phone ringing like a bell.

i should have never answered,
i should have never cared,
i should have let the machine pick it up,
as if no one was there.

but instead i picked it up,
like it was another happy day,
but the voice on the other end,
was just opposite of that way.

and as he tired to speak,
not many words came out,
so i had no idea,
what he was talking about.

but then he took a breath,
and breathed a heavy sigh,
and told that the night before,
my friend had been shot, and died.

and i stood there frozen cold,
and my mind filled up with fright,
it couldn't be my friend,
that i had talked to just last night.

then i heard the voice,
of my friend still on the phone,
and he told me he'd come over,
so i wouldn't be alone.

so i hung up the phone and sat down,
and stared off into space,
because no one knew that last night,
my friend would meet his fate.

he came over and sat down,
and began to tell the story,
of how my friend was shot and killed,
at midnight, bloody and gory.

he said that it had happened,
of a drug deal gone wrong,
but the criminals were found innocent,
and left to move along.

all this time i sat there,
and i never said a word,
for i knew when they came out,
i would let them be heard.

i hate the boys who did this,
it just isn't fair,
they took away a young mans life,
and didn't even care.

reality sinks in,
and tears stream down my face,
we tried to help him so many times,
but he let someone put him in his place.

(this poem isnt a true story, but the same thing could happen to one of my friends, and i hope this never happens, please read and comment)
