Elizabeth

Nothing but a wraith,
Amidst the joys of others,
Slipping between dreams
Of could be and hated is,
The laudanum easing in
her veins to free the night...
Gaslight and mistglow
Glisten 'pon the wet streets
Beneath her silent toes
As she peers into his
Chosen redlight manor,
Laughter and meandering
Moan that should be hers
Transmuted into cold dish
By the veil of glass
Frosting before her sobbing
Breath as she retreats
Through darkness to her
Final Embrace.
