I Watched The World

by Stef   Sep 19, 2004

I watched a falling leaf float so slowly to the ground
And though it knew it was dying, it made not a sound
For a split second I wished that we could be like this leaf
Not making a sound, though our hearts are torn with grief.

I watched a playful puppy chase a ball around the park
His energy did not grow thin, even when it was getting dark
I envied him, for as he ran, his owners laughed with joy
And I wished we could be like him…only needing love and toys.

I watched the sun as it set, beyond this chaotic town of mine
The sky turned into a beautiful rainbow, and as I checked the time
I silently wished, for even a day, that the world could just forget
The time, and just sit and enjoy the simple things, like that sunset.

I watched the world fall asleep, leaving so much worry in the air
I can see them now, in their beds, thinking how it's just not fair
Because they all have so much to do in such a short little while
And I wished, for the whole world, that everyone could just smile.
