Shallow Tears

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 20, 2004

My tears may be shallow, but emotions run deep
If I had no sorrow, I would not need to weep
My tears fall like rain to cleanse my soul
Sorrow is the pain that no one can control

My heart can feel what my mind cannot
I feel my soul when I'm deep in thought
If my shallow mind had listened to my heart
I would not have felt the pain of being apart

But when the rain falls like sorrow on the earth
The life within it's soil experiences birth
Through the pain of sorrow the soul can be reborn
The grace of God falls on the hopeless and forlorn

O Lord, help me to love with my whole heart, mind, soul, and strength
To feel the joy of love again I would go to any length

    Michael,

I have always read your poeams, and there is no doubt that you continue to posses the great talent that you had when I first crossed onto your beautifully penned words.

What I really love about this piece is how is addresses the fact that one cannot control their emotions. It is as though the affairs of the heart contain a mind of its very own and no matter what we say or do the heart will always appear to control the brain.

Such sorrow and despair is vividly portayed for the reader and yet you somehow leave us with a sense of hope. It is as though we are cheering you on to love fully and openly once again.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful works and talent with us. Everything you have given us has always been a pleasant experience, even in the sad realms of poetry.
