The Other Option

by jess   Sep 23, 2004

If I was handed a rope,
I would tie it in a knot.
If I was handed a knife,
I would sharpen the blade.
If I was handed a gun,
I would load it.
If I was told I was crazy,
I would correct them and say insane.
If I was strong,
I would get better.
If I was smart,
I would ignore the negative thoughts.
If I was beautiful,
I wouldn’t feel so insecure.

But no one handed me a rope,
So the knot remains untied.
No one handed me a knife,
So the blade remains blunt.
No one handed me a gun,
So it remains unloaded.
No one called me crazy,
So my correction remains unvoiced.
I am not strong,
So my future is in your hands.
I am not smart enough,
So the thoughts remain negative.
I am not beautiful,
And I’m too weak to have a cure.
