The Heart. Soul, Mind, and Strength

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 23, 2004

The heart says to the soul, how can you love without a heart?
The soul says, the mind says that we should never be apart.
But the mind says, I haven't got the strength to love with my whole heart
The strength says how can I bear the burden of love, without a cart?
The soul says, I will pray for the answer that will be a good start

The strength says to the soul if you can find
What pleases God tell it to my own mind
The heart says to the strength that is so kind
The soul says, you know we are not too blind
We see we need unity to make our love refined

The mind says to the heart, do you not feel any sorrow,
For the strength who has to work for the joys of tomorrow?
The soul says to the mind, do you think I feel no pain
When you seek pleasures, of which you should abstain?

The mind says to the soul, you must share the blame
You will suffer purgatory for our awful shame
Our passions are really quite the same
But to unite with God should be our aim

I think we need a little pleasure with our pain
As the earth needs a little sunshine with the rain
The heart says I feel the mind is right, but I can't explain
The strength says, I agree this discussion is not vain.

The soul says I really believe all we said is true
But I would like to say something before we are through
It is time we learn to see and understand the simple truth at last
That God loves us today, tomorrow, and forever, even with our past
