Specter

by Amerimov   Sep 24, 2004

Did I ever really know you?
Or was I talking to a specter
Waiting for the moment I turn my back
To run me through?

What has changed?
I feel obliterated
I can't think anymore
What are you doing to me?
What have you done to me?
You lock me up and set me free

I feel the thoughts of others in my head
The shadows of the dead
And your shadow eclipses them all
Brandishing the dagger you bring about my fall
You built it up and now you rip down the walls
The time we've spent was futile, useless
And you place yourself above me
You heartless, vile, murdering wench
With delusions of grandeur, dreams of superiority
All to remain unrealized

My voice is loud now
I will be heard
My limbs are strong now
You won't resist
But listen, and I'll tell you a tale
Of a ghost of ill proportions
Who betrayed me
Who destroyed me
A shadow brought me down.

THIS is definitely at the top of my list of your poems... I love it more than I can say. "And your shadow eclipses them all" great line.. i have someone in my life that i feel this way about.. and because you have placed it in the love poetry category.. i can totally relate. i wrote something along the same lines (although not as much malice in mine) called Ghost Behind Me. It was while reading this poem that I realized I like your writing because I "get" your writing. Each one of these poems speaks to me about something happening with me right now in my own life.. so regardless of your true intent (which most of us will never quite know), each one (esp this and another) hit me at my core. Excellent piece.
