Great Expectations

by Nat-a-Tat   Sep 26, 2004

Had I never moved
Did you ever wonder how it would be?
If I grew to like you as more than a friend
And you equally liked me

It's was years before I saw you
Even longer since we met
Many times we shared together
Things I will never forget

You're my best friend's cousin
And so a cousin you were to me
Never thought of you as more than what you were
Since you were considered family

Over the years we grew apart
Less emails!
Less instant messages!
Our friendship fell apart

I missed you at first
Wished we had kept in touch
But with each passing day
The intensity wasn't as much

She once sent pictures
While I was off in that far off land
You changed so much
You looked like a grown up man

I couldn't wait to see you again
The next time I was in town
To see what you looked like in person
To see if my jaw would drop to the ground

I remember the instant I saw you
I couldn't believe what I saw
Your boyish features now manly
I was in absolute awe

I wanted to jump out of the car
Give you a hug like a great big kid
My emotions were overwhelmed
But for mine and your sake
I kept them well hid

You looked so handsome
You looked real good
So very attractive
With even the way you stood

It was like no time had passed
And I was thirteen again
We picked up from where we left off
And you were once again my friend

The anticipation was so bold
The passing moments made me weak
With a glimpse of your deep stare
It's like I forgot how to speak

The whole night your eyes were on me
Almost as if in a trance
Was it because you felt the same?
And wanted one last chance

Saying goodbye was hard
So hard because I'd miss you
We only hung out for one night
And until we meet again
I will always think so fondly of you.
