Matthew

Matthew
By Mark Spencer

Mathew came into this world,
the youngest child of four.
His brother and his sisters
were ten years old or more.

Every memory I have
cuts me like a knife.
How we lost our hearts to him,
and how he lost his life.

The photographs and memories
just don't seem enough.
These last few years without him
really have been tough.

Sometimes I sit and wonder
why Mathew had to die.
God may be the only one
who knows the reason why.

He was so much like an angel,
a tiny cherubim.
And if we all felt special,
it was because of him.

He touched our lives so briefly,
then our little man was gone.
But he brought us all together,
and we learned to carry on.

We still miss our baby,
sometimes still feel the pain.
But every day we thank the Lord,
for the three that still remain.

Mathew's gone to heaven now,
he's on to greater things.
I wish I could have been there
to see him earn his wings.

End.
