A Kiss

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 29, 2004

I saw an innocent child playing with such bliss
He carelessly hurt his hand and felt a little pain
He ran to his mother to be healed by her kiss
Then I saw something only a mother could explain

The pain the child felt suddenly disappeared
And the child was happier than he was before
The loss of consoling comfort is what he feared
After the mother's kiss, he was no longer sore

Although, from pain, there is not always protection
It's a joy to see the gentle healing powers,
That mysteriously is in a mother's affection
Gentle as a breeze, more beautiful than flowers

If there's innocence left in me by the grace above
Even if I am sometimes overcome with doubts and fears
I still believe in the power of affection and love
I have seen nothing more beautiful in my years
